Insurance Enrollment
Get Covered New Jersey
Open Enrollment for health insurance through Get Covered New Jersey—New Jersey’s official Health Insurance Marketplace—takes place once a year, from November 1 through January 31. To have your coverage start on January 1, you must enroll by December 31. If you enroll in January, your coverage will begin on February 1.
Outside of Open Enrollment, you can typically only enroll if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). Life events such as getting married, becoming pregnant, having a baby, or adopting a child may make you eligible for an SEP. Additionally, individuals within certain income ranges may qualify to enroll year-round. SEPs also allow current members to change their health plans.

NJ FamilyCare
You can apply for NJ FamilyCare, New Jersey’s publicly funded health insurance program, at any time throughout the year.
Wondering if you're eligible? Visit the program website or contact a representative to learn more.
If you apply for NJ FamilyCare after the Open Enrollment period and are denied, that denial does not count as a qualifying life event for Get Covered NJ coverage. However, if you’re already enrolled in NJ FamilyCare and later lose that coverage due to ineligibility, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period through Get Covered NJ. Losing other health coverage is considered a qualifying life event, allowing you to enroll outside the standard Open Enrollment window.
