CJMC Wants You to Protect Your Kids as They Head Back to School

August is National Immunization Awareness Month

As we see summer coming to an end, the month of August is more than just the time for new backpacks and getting ready for a new school year. It is also National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM) and this annual observance reminds us of the important role that vaccines play in keeping our children, families, and communities healthy.

When our kids return to their classrooms and after-school activities, they will be exposed to more germs and illnesses.

Immunizations and wellness visits at the Central Jersey Medical Center can help protect them from preventable diseases such as measles, whooping cough, chickenpox, and meningitis.

These illnesses although uncommon now through preventative vaccines, can cause serious complications. Keeping them that way requires ongoing protection.

August is Perfect for a Vaccine and Wellness Check-Up at CJMC Before the start of the new school year, it is important to review your child’s immunization record with their CJMC healthcare provider. New Jersey requires certain vaccinations for attending school, but it’s also an opportunity to make sure they are up to date on recommended vaccines.

The Central Jersey Medical Center provides all CDC recommended vaccines for children and adults and they participate in the VFC and 317 program making vaccines affordable for all patients regardless of insurance status or ability to pay. Although COVID vaccines are not currently provided, they will offer Flu vaccines in the fall.

Immunizations Protect the Entire Community Creating “herd immunity,” makes it harder for diseases to spread throughout the community, especially to those who cannot be vaccinated due to medical conditions. By vaccinating your

child, you are also helping to protect babies, grandparents, and neighbors with weakened immune systems.

CJMC Offers a Back-to-School Health Tip Combining your child’s annual wellness physical with their immunizations will make it easier to stay on schedule. This is also a great time to discuss for dental visits, and to learn about healthy eating habits.

The CJMC wants you to remember that vaccines are a safe and effective tool for preventing disease. Contact the CJMC today for your child’s appointment.
